My hard drive failed on my 2009 MacBook Pro last week. I looked over reviews and decided on the Samsung 850 EVO SSD. I did have my drive backed up on Time Machine, but the new SSD had to be installed cold turkey. The install went fine and I had a Snow Leopard disk in the drawer to boot with. I was able to find the drive under disk utilities and partition with GUID no problems. However during Snow Leopard install I get an error message about 10 min into it saying Install Failed OS X could not be installed on your machine. I also tried a direct Restore from utilities drop down and received an error message a few minutes in.
APple ply support on the phone tried basically what I tried and wound up setting me up a Genius Bar appointment. Any thoughts?

I updated my 840 EVO 500 GB internal drive that I had put on my 2013 Mac mini, running El Capitan, by downloading the EXT0DB6Q ISO file for Mac from Samsung's website. I was at firmware EXT0BB6Q, and updated to EXT0DB6Q. Burn iso to CD (I used Titanium Toast). Boot from that CD (hold down 'C' while booting mac) Install firmware and reboot. Samsung's 850 EVO series SSD is the perfect for everyday computing.
